Valves again – rough running

Following the recent MOT, I took it for a longer spin and noticed some misfires at the top revs.. plus it also seemed to become difficult to start….

It was also very Tappy on the way back – Valve Clearances are key with Boxers…

So to the job in hand and yes, one adjuster had decided not to be an adjuster any more leaving the inlet gap to spread to cm’s rather than sub mm.

I also noticed when removing the plugs that one plug had burnt off it’s core… fair enough.. new plugs sorted that…

I had to order and fit a new adjuster and that involves re-torqueing the rocker arm as well as timing and gapping the Inlet and Exhausts…

Once done – as ever it sparked much more easily to life and revs and runs way better… simple maintenance all with a couple of 12mm spanners… If your Boxer is running poorly always start with Valves and Timing first…
